I think I understand what you are talking about now. I have a very limited experience with ODS but here is my $.02.
As you are saying, setup a either a tachometer, if you want to animate at machine speed or a whole multiple, or a reference accelerometer.
If you are using the reference accelerometer. set it on a point that gives you the best signal of that frequency. Sometimes the greatest amplitude is not the best if the signal comes and goes. I was once taking a readings on a screw conveyor but placed the accelerometer on a shaker as that was the source of my vibration.
Then set your data collector up for taking triaxial measurements as the instructions say to do. Make sure you have your triaxial accelerometer oriented in the right planes. As you know if you are not careful with this the animation will be all over the place.
