    What is it for?

It is a software to download the maintenance orders from SAP into compact/portable PC devices. The crew would carry the devices to the field, document electronically the work on the PC instead of on a printed order. After execution there are two options to update SAP:
    * wireless transmission from the portable PC device to SAP,
    * or hook up the portable PC into a workstation and upload the orders into SAP.

Is it Ex-rated? Any link to it?

Ex indicates the explosion-proof type. I ask because we cannot bring in a non-explosion proof device into an Ex-rated area.

Good point, I will check the mobile PC devices specifications for Ex-rating. SMART is a software to be running on the mobile PC device (with or without Ex-rating).

Paper is flammable so printing it appears not a good idea.

Having a paperless system brings several benefits:
    * Electronic storage of the information: easier / faster retrieval of history data.
    * No need for large physical storage space for filing paper maintenance orders
    * Reduced fire hazards.
    * At your industry you may face less regulations regarding the records, so the project must be easier than in a pharmaceuticals mfg plant.

Someone here need to acceptance work by operation signature....

    Operations approve work permits.

SAP has the work permit feature if you wish to be paperless further.

I mean work acceptance and never use permit function because different company/policy and details.

Please remember Josh, CMMS (SAP-PM) do not everything in maintenance.

Work acceptance after or before work completion?
Do you mean Operations have to sign off for work acceptance after completion?

Yes! I mean after maintenance work complete.

Ok, do you NOCO notifications in SAP PM?

I think if really what to be paperless, operations can complete notification online after surveilance at site as to accept work completion before Maintenance can TECO order.

In our current paper system the Maintenance Order gets 4 signatures:
    * Operations giving the go-ahead to start the job, this includes all required permit to work or other special safety permits.
    * Maintenance Technician(s) signature(s) to record who performed the job.
    * Operations signature (after job completion) to document their acknowledge of work done.
    * Maintenance Supervisor approving the job.

When going for a paperless system the implemented solution must be able to record electronically all the required signatures.

In our system the Notification gets NOCO status automatically when the Maintenance Order is technically completed TECO. No Notifications are still open at the system because Operations failed to update it, completion of the order (TECO) completes the Notification (NOCO).

That's correct, Eugene becauase it's set up like that. But if operations want to noco their own notifs to signify work acceptance in SAP PM, why not?

I do not know if after a walk through the operations area, where the Operations guy:
    * checked on the field several maintenance jobs,
    * check that his own personnel are doing what they supposed to do,
    * give new instructions after the production schedule was changed at today's daily meeting,
    * notice that some materials are short for the production batch he need to be done today,
    * many other tasks,

When he came back to his office, what task will he accomplish first?
    * call the warehouse or buyer and ask where are the materials he needs?
    * calculate if he will meet the production schedule
    * log on into the CMMs to create/approve new notifications or NOCO the ones he saw completed during his round?

I see a potential delay if Maintenance has to wait for he perform the (NOCO) before close(TECO) the order.

Yes! I do that after work done and entry failure code (damage, cause and activity) by Maintenance clerk.
