Terry captured it perfectly recently, we still must remember it's a business and the purpose is to make a profit for investors or owners, or the business fails. So, all of these inspirational asset management and reliability initiatives should be directly linked financial metrics such as ROC, ROI, EBiTDA, and margin to show executive management how investing in these initiatives will improve financial performance and margin for the business otherwise, why should they fund your ideas? Everything you do should have a positive financial impact on the business. Improvements in safety for example, doesn't just make you feel better that employees return home safe at night, it also lowers your insurance premiums, workman's comp, and improves your position to new customers. This can result in millions of dollars of margin improvement for a large industrial. First however, know what you're talking about and define the true cost of downtime for your business and get U&A (Understanding & acceptance) with executive management on the final number. Then, use it to define the financial impact on every initiative proposed.
