Industry Veteran Appointed to Steward the World’s Largest Human-Generated Body of Knowledge in Maintenance, Reliability, and Asset Management Through 2126 and Beyond
Blair, Nebraska — March 2026 — Reliability Leadership Institute LLC, owner and steward of the Uptime® Elements — A Reliability Framework and Asset Management System™, today announced the appointment of Maura Abad as Chief Operating Officer. In this newly created role, Abad will lead the Institute’s ambitious 100-Year Vision: ensuring that the world’s most comprehensive, human-generated body of knowledge in maintenance, reliability, and asset management continues to serve rising reliability leaders through the year 2126 and far beyond.
The announcement comes at a defining moment for Reliability Leadership Institute LLC, which recently completed the transition of its conference and training operations to new ownership while retaining full intellectual ownership of the Uptime® Elements framework. With that transition complete, the Institute enters its next chapter — focused entirely on the long-term development, publication, and global deployment of the Uptime Elements Body of Knowledge and its growing ecosystem of certification pathways, implementation guides, and leadership development resources.
“Maura Abad has been at the center of the global reliability community for over a decade, building relationships, creating platforms, and opening doors for leaders from every corner of the world. She doesn’t just understand the Uptime Elements — she embodies the principles of reliability leadership. She is the right person, at the right moment, to carry this work forward for the next century.” — Terrence O’Hanlon, Founder & CEO, Reliability Leadership Institute LLC |
A TRUSTED STEWARD OF A GLOBAL MOVEMENT
Abad brings to the COO role more than twelve years of deep operational experience at the heart of the global reliability community. As Vice President of Operations at Reliabilityweb.com, she managed over 35 major industry events — including The RELIABILITY Conference®, Solutions 2.0, MaximoWorld, and the International Maintenance Conference — across more than ten countries. She traveled to over twenty countries visiting industrial plants and played a central role in supporting training for more than 50,000 participants through the Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) program, one of the most respected credentialing pathways in the field.
Her global footprint extends far beyond event management. As Founder and Global Director of Women in Reliability and Asset Management (WIRAM) under the Association of Asset Management Professionals (AAMP), Abad built what began as a single idea sketched out on a flight home into a movement with over 1,500 members and active chapters across Africa, Australia–New Zealand, Asia, Antarctica, the USA, Canada, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom. She also serves as Global Director for Asset Management Chapters worldwide, having personally opened over 20 chapters including South Africa, UK, USA, Canada, Latin America, and the Netherlands — extending the reach of structured asset management thinking to practitioners who previously had no formal community.
As Executive Director and Host of the Asset Management Visionaries video podcast for AAMP — now with over 25 episodes — Abad has brought the personal stories, philosophies, and hard-won experience of reliability leaders from around the world to a growing global audience. The series reflects her conviction that reliability leadership is as much about human character as technical competency.
A published author and creative force beyond the industrial world, Abad has authored two books — “42 Poems: It Is All About The Context” and “One Frame at a Time With Awareness” — and served as Executive Producer and Screenwriter of the short films “From Out There”, and “Memento Vivere,” which has garnered over 20,000 views. She is also the founder of mauraabad.com, a platform reflecting her expansive creative and intellectual life. These dimensions of her identity are not peripheral to her professional role — they are precisely what make her a powerful advocate for the human side of reliability leadership, a theme central to the Uptime Elements People and Culture at Work framework.
“This is not just a role — it is a responsibility I accept with deep humility and enormous pride. The Uptime Elements represent the collective intelligence of thousands of reliability leaders who have dedicated their careers to making the world’s physical assets perform better and last longer. My mission is to ensure that this knowledge is as alive, accessible, and transformative in 2126 as it is today.”
— Maura Abad, Chief Operating Officer, Reliability Leadership Institute LLC
THE 100-YEAR VISION: A BODY OF KNOWLEDGE BUILT TO ENDURE
Reliability Leadership Institute LLC is the sole owner and publisher of the Uptime® Elements — A Reliability Framework and Asset Management System™, recognized as the most widely implemented reliability framework in the world. The framework organizes the full spectrum of maintenance, reliability, and asset management knowledge into a periodic-table-style architecture spanning multiple interconnected domains: Reliability Engineering for Maintenance (REM), Asset Management (AM), Work Execution Management (WEM), Leadership for Reliability (LER), IoT Digitalization Strategy, People and Culture at Work (PCW), and Sustainability.
The Institute licenses the Uptime Elements to the Association of Asset Management Professionals (AAMP) for the development of certification examinations, black belt projects, and knowledge badges — including the Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) designation — creating a credentialing ecosystem that connects framework knowledge to career advancement for reliability professionals worldwide.
The 100-Year Vision, which Abad will lead operationally, is built around three core imperatives: completing and continuously expanding the Uptime Elements Body of Knowledge across all domains; building the institutional infrastructure necessary to sustain the framework’s relevance and accessibility across generations of practitioners; and deepening the global community of rising reliability leaders who adopt reliability not merely as a technical competency but as a professional identity and calling.
“The Uptime Elements are not a product — they are a living system of knowledge that reflects how the best reliability leaders think, lead, and create value. Our obligation is to build the institutional foundation that allows this knowledge to serve the next generation of leaders as powerfully as it has served this one.”
— Terrence O’Hanlon, Founder & CEO, Reliability Leadership Institute LLC
SCOPE OF THE COO ROLE
In her new role, Abad also takes operational leadership of the Reliability Leadership Foundation’s consortium work — the collaborative bodies that have produced published implementation guides for Digitalization, IoT, Reliability Leadership, Sustainability, and the People and Culture at Work Framework. These consortiums represent the Institute’s commitment to knowledge creation through community: bringing together practitioners, researchers, and leaders to advance the state of the art and make their collective insights available through the reliabilitymarketplace.com publishing platform.
As Chief Operating Officer, Abad will oversee all operational functions of Reliability Leadership Institute LLC, with direct responsibility for:
- Publication strategy and Body of Knowledge development across all Uptime Elements domains — including the Reliability Framework, Digitalization Strategy Framework, and People and Culture Framework
- Global community engagement including WIRAM’s 10-continent chapter network and over 20 Asset Management Chapters worldwide
- Licensing relationships with AMP and other institutional partners, including CRL certification program support
- Reliability Leadership Foundation consortiums producing published implementation guides across all major framework domains
- Digital platform strategy across reliabilityleadership.org and reliabilitymarketplace.com
- Asset Management Visionaries® podcast and media productions under the AMP banner
- Emerging technology integration aligned with the 10 Rights of Digitalization and 10 Rights of AI
- Long-term institutional planning to preserve and evolve the framework’s integrity and global accessibility through 2126
