The webinar held on October 20, 2026 reaffirmed asset management experts' commitment to excellence and continuous improvement at the launch event for the new AMP Africa Chapter, organized by the Association of Asset Management Professionals (AMP).
The Association of Asset Management Professionals (AMP) is strengthening its presence in Africa with the launch of the new AMP Africa Chapter, an event held on October 20 (3:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. local African time, 10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. ET). Terrence O’Hanlon, AMP’s Executive Director, welcomed the chapter members alongside Maura Abad, AMP’s Global Chapter Director. The Virtual Chapter Kick-Off meeting, “Uptime® Elements in the African Context: Turning Reliability Strategy into Action,” featured Johan Van Rensburg, Reliability Manager at Sappi in South Africa and Co-Leader of this chapter, among other speakers.
The new AMP Africa Chapter is the result of the merger of several chapters from African countries, as part of AMP’s strategies to optimize the dissemination of information and knowledge about asset management. The chapter is now composed of Houcine Bensaid, Mohamed ElSayed, Johan Van Rensburg, Mahdi Houssein Robleh, and Jose DeSousa as co-leaders, along with Mounir Senoussi as Chapter Secretary and Girão Cauanga as Co-Secretary. “This is a special day, because we are introducing this AMP Africa Chapter to the world, a chapter made up of outstanding professionals and leaders who bring fresh insights on asset management. Today you’ll have the opportunity to meet these leaders, as well as Terrence O’Hanlon, creator of the Uptime® Elements,” said Maura Abad at the start of the webinar.
Africa is moving toward industrialization
The event was moderated by Mounir Senoussi, chapter secretary, who welcomed everyone in attendance. “Your presence here today reflects a shared interest in strengthening asset management in the region,” said Senoussi. Speakers included Johan Van Rensburg, asset management consultant Tarek Shalabi, and Terrence O’Hanlon, who discussed the scope of asset management and reliability in the African context and within companies on the continent.
“Africa is a major exporter of commodities, but it is rapidly becoming a key hub for industrialization, and our reliability framework is essential to making that vision a reality,” said Terrence as he began his presentation, “Turning Reliability Strategy into Action,” in which he highlighted AMP’s resources for successfully embarking on, navigating, and completing the Reliability Journey. Johan Van Rensburg, who is also a Certified Reliability Leader®, said that this new chapter aims to connect, develop, share, collaborate, and move forward. “Africa is a continent with great potential, and we will likely form one of the largest reliability and asset management communities in the world,” Johan stated at the start of his presentation. Tarek Shalabi led the third part of the conference, discussing maintenance strategy, how to address asset obsolescence, and how to make better business decisions.
